Is being induced at 38 weeks ok ?

I will be 38 weeks on Jan 7th and I was going to ask my doctor to induce then because I live 40 miles away from the hospital and dont want to chance going into labor and my husband being at work. He works in the oil field and goes out of town every day or out on a delivery and not be able to get my call.

Im only 1 cm dilated no clue about my cervix but I have a lot of swelling going on in my legs feet arms and face. I also had a sonogram at 36 weeks and he measured 5lbs 3 ounces so he should weigh a lot more now. Im also only 5 feet tall and only weighed 100lbs before I got pregnant so Im stretched to the limit and it hurts when he moves. Any advice?

In your circumstances I think its reasonable to ask. The baby should be almost ripe by now

38 weeks is still considered full term so the baby should be fine.

any pregnancy after 36 weeks is considered full term. i actually gave birth to my daughter at 36 weeks on my own and she weighed 5 lbs 7 oz and she will be 9 in January. i think you should ask your doctor there isnt any harm in delivering now. as long as your baby is over 5 lbs he or she is not considered pre mature. that is only if a baby is under 5 lbs and they have to stay in the hospital until they reach over 5 lbs. good luck

dr.s generally will wait as long as they can to bring on labour any more than a week before the due date as if you go even a week early it can still cause more risks of the baby having some lung problems the lungs are the one organ that has its final touches in the last few weeks. its really important that the baby stay in there as long as possible as uncomfortable as you may be believe me i know lack of comfort being a mom of an 18m old and 6 months preg. with a painfull groin hernia the baby is considerd full term at 37 weeks i believe but still. wait as long as you can and i hope all goes well for you. hang in there a couple weeks will make a huge diff. for baby

Being induced is bad for the baby. It causes harder contractions which cuts off the oxygen to the baby. This is one of the side effects that they will not tell you. They will swear it is safe. Of course they say things like that about a lot of things. Do some research and you will see.

You should have plenty of time to get to the hospital. First babies take a long time generally.

the baby is concidered full term at 37 weeks the extra 3weeks are really just for a bit of extra growth your baby would be perfectly fine if enduced at 38 weeks…. i dont know that they will let you do it but it cant hurt to ask right??

I work in the Nursery Dept at a hospital. With your situation I dont see anything wrong with being induced at 38 weeks. Most of the time any babies born 36 weeks and over are pretty healthy and acceptable. Those below 36 weeks are usually sent to the NICU neonatal intensive care unit for observation and are given more attention. Since youre also small you must be under a lot of pain. If your doctor agrees i dont see why not.

  9. Due very soon

im not sure they will induce you because of your perfernce i think they only do it when mother and or baby are in danger like we were i had pre eclampsia so they induce me at 37 weeks but it didnt work and ended up having a c section

JUST RELAX AND LET THE BABY BE BORN WHEN HE/SHE IS READY. I’VE SEEN A LOT OF MOTHERS COMPLAIN OF ACHES AND PAINS AND WANT INDUCED AND I’VE SEEN A LOT OF C-SECTIONS AND BABIES THAT CAN’T BREATH BECAUSE OF IT! WHATS 2 MORE WEEKS?
