Is 32 weeks too late to switch from my OB to Midwife?

Im 32 weeks and starting to think a lot more seriously about how I want my labor/delivery to go. All the research Ive done and conversations Ive had with people I trust point to me having a midwife attend my delivery instead of an OB. I want to have a natural birth with little intervention and plan on delivery in a birthing center.

My OB wouldnt be delivering my baby anyway whoever from her practice thats on call would. So Im thinking that since I wont know who is delivering my baby if I stick with my OB I might as well switch to a midwives group.

Will a midwife take me at 32 weeks ? Im a low risk normal pregnancy so far ? And how should I tell/contact my OB or OBs office?

Any advice/experiences would be helpful.

Only way to find out is to call and ask my MW wont take on any new patients after 28 weeks.

Please whatever you do dont do the unassisted home birth

Too many things could go wrong in the blink of an eye and you wouldnt know it fetal monitoring is very important during labor and how would you be able to do that…you CANT

You should be able to switch just fine. You may just run into the possibility that the midwife has a full clientele though so you should be calling asap.

    It shouldnt be a problem.:

If that fails why not just have an unassisted home birth? If you have a lowrisk pregnancy and dont live two hours from a hospital ti seems like a good option. You should read up on unassisted home birth. It really goes well for a lot of women and when there are problems its rare that theyre serious enough to not have time to get to a hospital

It is not too late to change the kind of care you want until that baby comes out. You have 2 months and that is time plenty to put together the kind of labor and delivery you want and to assess the kind of care you need.

Your pregnancy is normal going smooth. You should be fine for the kind of delivery you want. Good luck

EDIT: btw i switched obs midway through my pregnancy bcos my doc was an ass Best desicion i ever made
